There are a multitude of benefits to becoming a citizen of Singapore. Singapore is internationally acknowledged as one of the most tranquil nations in the world, with a high quality of life, high-paying employment, and an accessible healthcare system. If this is insufficient, a Singapore passport enables visa-free travel to 189 countries.
The acquisition of Singaporean citizenship ensures access to all of these benefits, as well as others. At the same time, you will assume the responsibilities of a Singaporean, including the completion of National Service and the adherence to Exit Permit requirements.
You must meet the citizenship application requirements in order to move forward with this process. We would like to remind you that the process of obtaining Singaporean citizenship is not immediate. The process is lengthy, encompassing several months, and it does not consider the years that you may be required to spend as a Pass Holder and Permanent Resident before applying. In this regard, not all individuals are eligible to apply for Singaporean citizenship.
You are eligible to apply for Singaporean citizenship if you are at least 21 years old and have been a Permanent Resident for a minimum of two years at the time of application. Individuals who have minor children and a spouse who is not married are permitted to apply together.
The situation is identical if you are a Singapore citizen’s spouse and have been a permanent resident for at least two years. Since you were married, it has been at least two years. The application form may also be submitted by a student in Singapore who possesses a Permanent Residence Permit.
But there are a few citizenship application requirements that you must meet. You must have held a Residence Permit for over three years, have passed at least one national exam, or be enrolled in the Integrated Program (IP) and have resided in Singapore for a minimum of one year.
Depending on the circumstances, it is necessary to submit a diverse multitude of documents for each applicant when applying for Singaporean citizenship in order to substantiate your application. All required documents include foreign ID cards, valid passports, birth certificates, family documents, educational documents, employment documents, and a photograph that meets Singapore’s photo requirements.
If you are an adult who is self-applying, you are obligated to submit the following documents for both yourself and your spouse, regardless of whether your spouse is accompanying you. Keep in mind that this is not an exhaustive list of documents, and the ICA may request additional documentation after reviewing your application.
